A friend and I were talking about Football (Soccer) in the USA. He hates the sport and asked me "Do you think Soccer is really on the rise in the USA?"...
It is a small known fact that Football (aka Soccer) is taking off in the USA with tiny jet packs and limited fuel. If it wasn't for teams like Manchester United, Chelsey, Barca, AC Milan and ect. Americans probably wouldn't know much more about it. They know Ronaldinho, Ronaldo, Rooney, Beckham and Kaka. They know Italy and England internationally.
Slowly but surely it is speeding up though. I recently walked into a local footballers shop and noticed a change. I noticed Juventus shirts and a Republic of Ireland shirts and Lazio and Germany and Orlando Pirates. A list that seemingly opened up over night.
Did America suddenly get the urge that the rest of the world has been feeling for so many years now? Will we see more Ibrohimovic and Ledley King shirts being worn around now? Will the local pubs start showing games?
We sure are limited on watching live games here. ESPN bought all the Football rights so now they control the games we watch, which believe it or not has been quite successful recently. Fox Soccer is not too bad, but getting a live game from them is like pulling teeth and it would then only be Man U vs Chelsey. But as stated they are all getting alittle better about it, making us closer to seeing a Football blow out here in the States.
So is football on the rise in the USA? I do believe so.
